The Ledger Nano S and Ledger Nano X are cold storage devices used to store private keys and crypto securely. These hardware wallets never connect to the internet keeping the private keys safe from hackers. In this tutorial, you will learn how to set up your Ledger with MyNearWallet
Setup a new device
The first thing you have to do is to install the ledger manager. To do this, download Ledger Live.
Then open Ledger Live on your computer and follow the installation steps. If you already had a Ledger Nano wallet, you can simply restore it!
And now we're ready to start!
-
Connect your Ledger to the computer with the USB cable and follow the instructions.
2. Your PIN code is the first layer of security. It secures access to your private key and your Ledger Nano. Your PIN code must be 4 to 8 digits long.
3. Your Ledger generates a unique recovery phrase - a secret list of 24 words that backs up your private keys. Grab a blank recovery sheet, included with your Ledger Nano, and write down all words while carefully respecting the order and spelling.
Note! If you lose this recovery phrase, you will not be able to access your crypto.
Install near app on Ledger Nano
Go to Manager
in the side menu and search for NEAR in the App Catalog and install it.
Authorize the Ledger Nano
Go to your "Account settings", press the "Enable" button on the Ledger section, and follow the instructions.
-
Connect your Ledger via USB to your computer.
-
Open the NEAR app on the Ledger and select the "Connect Ledger" button at the top right corner of the window
-
On the first pop-up window, select the "Connect" button.
-
Select the device from the list in the second pop-up and click "Connect"
-
Select the "Continue" button below to finish setting up the Ledger on this account and confirm the operation on your Ledger with your key.
Now you can choose to remove all the existing keys, except Ledger, or keep them.
That's it! Now your wallet is protected with your Ledger Nano.
